Even though you may live in a big city, chances are you aren’t that far from a place you can practice dirt biking. But before jumping into it, here’s everything you need first when trying to learn how to ride.
First, you absolutely need a bike that fits you. Dirt bikes are very different from street-tested bikes so if you’re going to spend hours out on the dirt, make sure your bike is the one for it. Second, the bike needs to be in great shape and maintained properly.
Remember that it is illegal to ride dirt bikes on a public road, so you may want to consider these options.

Private Land
You can learn dirt biking on a vast and spacious private land. But before you start your engine, make sure that you get a hold of the owner or manager to ask permission to ride on it. Most likely, they wont mind having people on their land as long as you don’t disturb the people who are nearby. Also, make sure that you have permission from the landowner/manager to bring your bike there.
There may be a cycle park located in your city that is open for public practices and even races. There, you can try out jumps or cut through obstacles and corners.
Deserts
Deserts are sandy and open places to practice dirt biking. Some of them even have particular trails – an excellent way to improve your skills as a beginner.
Dunes are perfect for practicing your bike skills because they offer ample room to practice with plenty of space for you to go around. They also help build up trust between you and your bike which is important when trying to master new moves. Additionally, the dunes actually make it easier for beginners because they can maneuver easily through them without risking much damage if they crash.
However, remember that when going off road, you are in the middle of a desert which means temperatures can be high.
Hills
Hills are an excellent place for beginners because they offer a challenge compared to flat lands and can be used as training grounds to improve riding skills. You will also have plenty of time while riding in the hills because you don’t need to worry about traffic and pedestrians around you.
Forest
Like deserts, forests are filled with challenging obstacles and trails that will help beginners gain confidence in their skills. But remember that forests are filled with a lot of trees and branches that will make it hard to see what’s on the ground so be careful. Also, while you may be good at riding in the forest, keep in mind that there may be wild animals around.
The Ozark National Forest in Arkansas, for instance, is lush and diverse. They offer the ideal forest trails and the steepest hills to practice dirt-biking skills. You may have a similar option near you.
Motocross Tracks with Instructors & Training Schools
Enrolling in a school or institution will help beginners learn to ride bikes with an experienced instructor. The instructors there know their stuff about dirt biking and are more than happy to give you some guidance.
The tracks provide an excellent opportunity to practice and become familiar with the different types of techniques while also becoming familiar with the obstacles and other riders so that they can help you if they notice that something isn’t right.
This is especially true at schools that teach biking for both adults and kids. This is because many schools have programs that cater to families with children who also want to learn how to ride bikes.
